About the role and team

Mount Gambier Prison is seeking an experienced and dynamic leader for the role of General Manager. You will be responsible for the overall management of the facility, including overseeing a team of approximately 200 staff and up to 653 prisoners. Reporting to the Director - Prisons (Carol-Anne), you will play a critical role in delivering on the prison's business plan, achieving key performance indicators, and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders, including the Department for Correctional Services.

Your duties will include:

  • Developing and executing the strategic plan for the prison.
  • Ensuring proper management of prisoners within the DCS framework.
  • Managing the prison's budget and financial performance.
  • Fostering a positive and inclusive work environment for staff.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.

What we're looking for

  • Sustained success in a senior correctional management role.
  • Thorough working knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Extensive knowledge of prison operations, including managing complex prisoner profiles.
  • Solid commercial and financial skills.
  • Strong negotiation and risk management skills.
