Join our team at Rural Economic Development, where we are dedicated to enhancing the profitability and sustainability of Queensland's grazing industry. We are currently seeking talented P03 equivalent Agricultural Economists.

  • Pay rate 64+p /h + super
  • Located in Mareeba QLD
  • ASAP starts until 2 Feb 2025 assignment with potential to extend, pending business and performance requirements

About the role
As an Agricultural Economists, you will play a crucial role in contributing to a variety of projects aimed at improving economic outcomes for beef grazing production systems. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct economic analyses using various methodologies (gross margin analysis, cost-benefit analysis, etc.) to evaluate agricultural production activities, natural resource management initiatives, and policy issues.
  • Provide training to graziers and beef extension officers on economic decision support tools.
  • Visit producers to gather property and herd information and develop scenarios to assess the profitability of grazing management strategies.
  • Prepare case studies, reports, and other communication materials based on economic findings.
  • Present economic findings to farmers through workshops, field days, and other communication methods to facilitate informed decision-making and improve farm profitability.
  • Organise workflow priorities to ensure timely delivery of project milestones and positive outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with stakeholders, including landholders, industry organisations, universities, and government agencies.

About You
To thrive in this role, you need:

  • Applied experience in agriculture or a strong passion for advancing the agricultural sector.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or a related field.
  • Experience with economic analysis methodologies and tools.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to rural areas.
  • Must have full working rights in Australia.
  • Be able to pass and hold national police check.
