As our Technical Director/Executive – Geotechnical, you will enhance your capabilities and the reputation of WSP’s renowned national Geotechnical and Tunnels team.

Geotechnical & Tunnels

Across Australia WSP employs a 400+ strong team of geotechnical, geological and tunneling consultants. Our WA Geotechnical team is the state’s largest geotechnical team and consists of passionate and experienced geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists and geoscientists, operating from offices in Perth CBD. 

You will also work alongside industry leading in-house Perth based capabilities in geophysics, environmental services and in-house geotechnical laboratories.

As part of the national Geotechnical and Tunnels team, you have the both of both worlds – solving client’s technical challenges (large and small) on geotechnically led projects, as well as the ability to work on major projects with one of Australia’s largest multi-disciplinary firms in the transport, mining and property and buildings sectors.

What you’ll do

You will be taking a leading technical role for our WA Geotechnical team and will be providing strong technical guidance and oversight to projects within the local team..

You believe in striving to offer best practice geotechnical consulting services to clients, throughout Western Australia, nationally and with opportunities to lead and collaborate on international projects.

Your passion and technical expertise will be deployed across a number of diverse projects, and will expose you to a variety of industries, such as transport, ports, mining, renewable energy, property and buildings, and also government sectors to further continue the growth of an already successful and reputable local geotechnical capability.

You will also be tasked in mentoring and the development of more junior engineers, ensuring that we are cultivating and supporting our fantastic Engineers of tomorrow.

A full position description is available on request, but a snapshot of your day to day will look like (but not be limited to):

  • Being a passionate and influential leader in Geotechics, proactively maintain effective networks and relevant industry relationships to gain cooperation in meeting business and client outcomes.
  • Embracing and leading our strong HSSE culture, providing safety leadership in identifying and alleviating/ eliminating high priority safety hazards
  • Providing technical advice on complex geotechnical issues to clients and internal staff
  • Managing key clients developing strategy, technical service offerings and significant business opportunities
  • Managing and maintaining key client relationships
  • Building a reputation as Technical Leader/Lead Consultant with leadership of project teams on consulting assignments
  • Undertaking peer review, expert opinion, and forensic engineering assignments
  • Developing a profile as a leading consultant within the Australian geotechnical consulting market

About You

You’re likely to be a proven and known leader in Geotechnical, and possess extensive years of proven experience at Principal level at a minimum. Influential and with exceptional people skills, you will also have genuine market and industry presence with your peers.

In addition, you are:

  • A civil engineering or Geotechnical degree, or related degree
  • Posses Post graduate qualifications in a geotechnical related field
  • Typically, a Chartered Professional
  • A successful track record in leading project teams to success within major projects
  • A proven track record of promoting innovation in the field of geotechnical engineering to create value for our clients and projects.
  • A strong work ethic and ability to work autonomously and in a team environment
