West Coast Language Development Centre (LDC) is conducting an ongoing open recruitment pool process for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full time and part time opportunities that may arise during the 2024 and 2025 school year. Placements can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 and or 2025 school years.
The West Coast LDC is a specialist facility that caters for students with identified language disorders. The centre has an intensive, early intervention student program for children from Kindergarten to Year 2. The service also has an Outreach Service that works across mainstream schools.
The Support Officer Speech and Language works as a part of a collaborative team in the Outreach Service. The suitable applicants would be responsible for providing consultancy and professional learning in the area of speech, language and early literacy development, supporting policy and procedures for the identification, referral and educational planning for students with speech and language needs.
The suitable applicants will ideally display the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as have highly developed independent skills. The role is about capacity building and this involves mentoring and modelling at the individual through to group level. Applicants should ideally have highly developed oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present professional learning to groups. Ideally, the suitable applicants will have analytical skills and display the ability to interpret data that is then linked to suggested intervention. In this position you would be expected to provide services within the North Metro and Midwest Educational regions, which may involve a significant amount of travel. Applicants would need to have their own vehicle for metropolitan travel purposes.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to speech and/or language and learning outcomes. Ability to develop, implement, monitor and review the delivery of professional support in language and literacy development. Negotiation, consultation and interpersonal skills with proven ability in working collaboratively and maintaining effective working relationships with a range of people across settings. Highly developed written and oral communication skills, including effective facilitation skills and the ability to prepare professional tools. Well developed research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify issues, devise plans and apply strategies to address them.Applications will be assessed against these work related requirements (selection criteria) of the position.
