About the Role:

The Department of Gastroenterology and Clinical Nutrition is advertising 6 ongoing vacant sessions to fulfil the role of one or more permanent Consultant Gastroenterologists. These sessions are available from 14/10/2024 to appoint individuals up to a maximum of a EFT or to top-up sessions for those with existing substantive appointments in the department to enable such individuals to be employed as full-time gastroenterologists. These sessions will be linked to inpatient and outpatient duties (clinics) and on-call responsibilities depending on the number of sessions the successful applicants are appointed to. The Head of Department will negotiate the details of oncall duties and clinical sessions with the successful candidate.

You will provide clinical care to paediatric patients with a full range of gastrointestinal, nutritional and liver conditions, including complex tertiary level gastroenterology such as Liver and Intestinal Transplantation. You will contribute to the provision of inpatient and outpatient services (both on-campus and telehealth) and will be involved in the provision of an on-call service. You will collaborate with other services within and outside the RCH to develop a more patient-centred, standardised and sustainable model of care. You will contribute to existing research in collaboration with the key campus partners of the University of Melbourne and the Murdoch Children's Research Institute with ample opportunity to initiate new research streams will be a key focus of this role.

You will be responsible for:

Clinical management of the full range of gastrointestinal, nutritional and liver conditions, including complex tertiary level gastroenterology such as Liver and Intestinal Transplantation

Contributing to the development of models of clinical care for Gastroenterological conditions to enhance the quality of that care whilst maximising efficient use of available resources

Effective communication with other healthcare providers and consumers, including but not limited to referring paediatricians, family practitioners, junior and senior medical staff, nursing, paramedical, clerical staff, families and patients 

Administration and leadership roles in the department.

Your skills and experience:

Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP or eligible for FRACP)

Fellowship training in paediatric Gastroenterology is essential

Demonstrated capacity to work harmoniously and collaboratively within a team environment

Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills

Demonstrated experience in the care of patients with liver transplantation

Specialist Medical Registration with AHPRA

A professional demeanour.

Key selection criteria:

Ability to effectively interact with colleagues, patients, and families, as well as build and maintain working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. A flexible and “can do” attitude is crucial, especially with the need to balance sometimes competing and conflicting priorities. Postgraduate training and experience in paediatric gastroenterology Training in Paediatric Gastrointestinal Endoscopy approved by the Conjoint Committee Demonstration of efficient time management

Desirable:

A research qualification eg PhD, MD or Masters in Medicine will be considered favourably.
