Newstead Hotel is currently seeking a passionate, enthusiastic Sous Chef to assist our Head Chef in leading a busy kitchen team.

Our Sous Chef supports the Head Chef with the day to day running of the kitchen and meal production and is responsible for supervising the kitchen team in the absence of the Head Chef.

Your duties will include, but limited to:

  • The ability to work as a member of a team and cooperate with customers, management and co-workers
  • Assist in the Kitchen with prep, cooking, and service
  • Directly work with the head chef with changes to rosters, menus, and ordering
  • Stock, and cleaning duties.

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • Previous experience in pub/bistro style dining (preferred but not essential)
  • Ability to lead a team in the absence of the Head Chef
  • A flexible approach to working hours, as you will be required to work a variety of shifts, including split shifts, across a 7 day rotating roster
  • Computer literacy, in particular experience in ordering and costing goods and developing employee rosters
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A focus on service excellence

Qualifications

  • A trade qualification, coupled with a minimum of 3 years' commercial cookery experience

Please note to be successful for this role you need to be able to work a variety of night and weekend shifts, which may include public holidays.
