Our client is seeking an experienced full-time Chef to join their restaurant located in Kew, Victoria.

Tasks required include:

  • Menu development: Creating cost-effective menus that meet the requirements of the day or the establishment.
  • Cooking: Preparing dishes using a variety of ingredients as specified by the menu or recipes.
  • Maintaining food quality: Ensuring that the quality of food is maintained at all stages of preparation and presentation.
  • Cost estimation: Estimating food and labor costs, as well as determining food requirements for menu planning.
  • Inspecting and checking ingredients: Before storing them, it's important to inspect vegetables and other ingredients to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Food storage: Storing foodstuffs at appropriate temperatures and monitoring freezer and fridge contents, ensuring stock rotation.
  • Hygiene procedures: Following workplace hygiene procedures to prevent contamination, cross-infection, and food poisoning.
  • Meat preparation: Cleaning and cutting meats into desired sizes and pieces.
  • Roasting: Cooking food and vegetables through roasting for a variety of dishes.
  • Recipe adherence: Following recipes and using personal judgment to prepare and cook food using various kitchen tools and equipment. Mixing and stirring various sauces for marinating and cooking dishes.
  • Equipment handling: Properly handling electrical equipment such as microwaves, ovens, refrigerators, and freezers.
  • Supervision: Instructing and supervising kitchen staff in food preparation.
  • Communication: Exchanging views with managers and kitchen staff regarding food preparation.
  • Presentation: Preparing garnishes and decorations to present dishes attractively.
  • Knife skills: Using proper knife handling and cutting techniques for fruits and vegetables.
  • Organization: Maintaining organization in workload, prioritizing tasks, and keeping the kitchen clean and tidy.
  • Dish preparation: Checking if all dishes for cooking are clean and in the proper place, serving food according to menus and customer needs.

Requirements:

  • Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in Hospitality Management
  • Certificate III and IV in Commercial Cookery
  • At least two (2) years of relevant experience as a Chef
  • Experience preparing and cooking Indian cuisine.
