Our priorities focus on amplifying First Nations voices, connecting diverse audiences, telling compelling stories, fostering collaboration and ensuring our institution’s resilience and sustainability for generations to come.Collection Registration Assistants undertake collection transport, auditing, loans administration, storage maintenance, packing, crating, internal object movements, documentation, exhibition development, installation and deinstallation activities and contribute to other organisational priorities as required. They also take the initiative to proactively contribute to the improvement and modernisation of processes and procedures and coordinate established work programs.
The successful candidate will bring experience and knowledge of registration practice in a museum environment, including best practice principles and standards for collection and manual handling, to provide quality services and outcomes. They have good attention to detail, take pride and care in their work and work well under pressure. They show initiative and strive for improvement, efficiency and growth in their work, their team and themselves. They can be relied on to follow direction but also to use discretion and initiative in delivering daily outcomes and setting priorities and are confident in actively seeking clarification and applying common sense when dealing with ambiguity.
The successful candidate will also work productively and cooperatively in a team environment and have good communication and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive, cooperative and productive working relationships. They will have the capacity to coordinate work programs under direction and enjoy working with diverse and multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders. They will also demonstrate a practical understanding of work health and safety and will be able to apply this to their day-to-day work.
Key skills and experience required for the position:
Collection handling experience and knowledge of registration practice in a museum environment, including best practice principles and standards.
Demonstrated ability to use initiative to problem-solve and a commitment to quality outcomes.
Good oral and written communications skills including the ability to liaise with Museum staff and external stakeholders and to present accurate and clear information.
Proven ability to establish and maintain productive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues, using well-developed interpersonal skills.
Good IT skills including prior experience of collection management systems (CMS) and proven capacity to use a range of information systems and tools to improve efficiency and productivity.
Demonstrated experience in and understanding of the principles and practices of workplace health and safety and its practical application within a museum or similar environment.
A current driver’s licence is desirable.
