Maintenance Assistant

 Provides janitorial services and general maintenance of warehouse and surrounding grounds. Restocks supplies. Operates rubbish compactor and cardboard baler. Periodically paints and performs routine maintenance throughout the warehouse. Purchases supplies needed for projects. Follows proper safety and security procedures and standards. Provides prompt and courteous member service.     

  • Cleans warehouse floors, offices, break rooms, and restrooms
  • Follows departmental standards for cleanliness and performance of duties
  • Restocks supplies
  • Empties rubbish from designated areas throughout the warehouse
  • Pulls merchandise slip sheets and loose cardboard from sales floor
  • Operates garbage compactor and cardboard baler
  • Checks daily schedule for assigned routine tasks and maintenance repair jobs  
  • Paints, replaces bulbs, maintains equipment, and performs routine repairs throughout the warehouse
  • Assists with installing and repairing building displays and fixtures
  • Purchases supplies and parts needed for projects
  • Maintains grounds outside warehouse including blowing leaves, picking up litter and building maintenance 
  • Follows proper Maintenance and general safety and security procedures, wearing safety goggles when using compactor and baler and product disposal
  • Responds quickly to and cleans up spills
  • Assists in other areas of the warehouse as necessary
  • Provides prompt and courteous customer service to members, employees, and vendors

Merchandising Stocker

Stocks and straightens merchandise for sale in the warehouse. Constructs, assembles, and modifies display models. Clears and cleans aisles of empty pallets and debris. Provides prompt and courteous customer service to members, employees, and suppliers. Follows proper safety procedures and standards.

  • Follows merchandising standards and practices
  • Communicates with supervisors and managers to determine merchandising plan and priorities
  • Writes list of merchandise to be brought from steel, by forklift driver, for stocking
  • Aligns merchandise, collects and returns stray items, and stocks to maintain high merchandise levels 
  • Cuts boxes for display/accessibility of merchandise and cuts twine or shrink-wrap from pallet
  • Marks merchandise number on unmarked items
  • Stocks opened cases onto shelves
  • Moves and positions pallets of merchandise
  • Stacks merchandise from partial pallets onto full pallets
  • Wraps/ties and tags pallets to be returned to steel
  • Checks for correct merchandise signs
  • Constructs and assembles display models as necessary
  • Modifies displays for safe handling by members (e.g. bolting heavy equipment, taping blade edges)
  • Pulls loose cardboard and slip-sheets from floor
  • Clears the sales floor of debris and sweeps
  • Removes empty pallets from the sales floor and re-wraps loose merchandise
  • Operates cardboard baler and trash compactor
  • Follows all safety and security procedures
  • Spots for Forklift Drivers to keep people out of fall-danger zone
  • Follows established inventory prep guidelines prior to physical inventory
  • Follows proper Merchandising and general safety procedures and standards
  • Helps members to load large items into their cart, directs them to merchandise, and relates merchandise status knowledge
  • Assists in other departments of the warehouse as necessary
  • Provides prompt and courteous customer service to members, employees, and suppliers

Front End Assistant

Packing member orders into boxes, and transferring member orders to a separate cart or flatbed after they have been scanned or keyed. Runs for items as needed. Proper safety procedures and standards. Maintains courteous member service at all times while monitoring a smooth flow of members through the registers.

  • Greets members, helps members load merchandise on the conveyor belt, asks member packing preferences, answers questions, relays information on special promotions, and thanks members
  • Transfers items not on the belt to a separate cart or flatbed as cashier scans items, placing barcodes up for the cashier when possible
  • Assists with getting supervisor verification for high-ticket, Bottom of Basket, or non-transfer items
  • Packs member orders into boxes and loads them on a separate cart or flatbed
  • Checks packaging for tampering and reports it
  • Assists members with loading orders into car when appropriate
  • Retrieves items such as boxes, register supplies, and merchandise requested by members to keep lines moving smoothly
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the register and general Front End area, reports and cleans spills and trip hazards immediately
  • When needed, retrieves carts and flatbeds from the parking area using a rope with clasping hook, pushing no more than 10 carts at once
  • Keep front of building clean
  • Follows proper Front End and general safety procedures and standards
  • Assist in other departments of the warehouse as necessary
  • Provides prompt and courteous customer service to members, employees and suppliers

Ability to operate vehicles, equipment or machinery

  • (Maintenance) Hand tools, pressure washer, floor scrubber, leaf blower, power tools, rubbish compactor, cardboard baler and machinery throughout the warehouse, mop wringer
  • (Stocker) Manual pallet jack, electric pallet jack, forklift, battery charger, pallets, cart, flatbed, broom, wheeled bin, rubbish compactor, cardboard baler, wrench, screwdriver, pliers, cutter, sticker marking gun, shrink wrap machine, license labels, RF gun, computer, printer, calculator, writing utensils, diamond tester, case alarms, electronic merchandise, cameras, cash register, table top/hand-held scanners
  • (Front End Assistant) Computer, printer, phone, camera, card printer, calculator, credit/debit terminal, cash register, cash machine, copier, table top/handheld scanner, 2-way radio, carts, flatbeds, clasping cart ropes, pallet jack, step ladder, rubbish compactor, cardboard/shrink wrap baler, rolling mop bucket with wringer, large wheeled bins, mop, broom, click counter, personal vehicle

Qualifications (Costco-specific or industry specific skills that candidates should possess)

Education/Training:

  • High School Certificate or higher

Licenses/Certifications:

  • None

Experience/Skills:

  • Janitor, general maintenance or comparable experience 
  • Problem solving and critical thinking
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Customer service, sales, membership, cash handling, loss prevention/security or comparable experience
  • Strong customer service, communication, interpersonal and organisation skills
  • Data entry and data management
  • Basic knowledge of Google Suite (Docs, Slides, Sheets) and AS400
  • Basic math skills
