About the role
Join our Operational Analysis and Engineering team as a Principal Engineer, where you'll provide subject matter expertise across various engineering activities. Lead the delivery of critical engineering functions, including assessing operational requirements to meet the energy transition framework, investigating power system oscillations, assessments for existing and future system restart ancillary services, and managing system strength and inertia requirements. Reporting to the Manager of Operational Analysis and Engineering, this role offers flexibility to be based at any of our office locations across multiple states.

What you will be doing

  • Lead power system modelling and studies to assess operational requirements for managing the energy transition, including fewer synchronous generators.
  • Develop and lead modelling work to address power system oscillation issues and identify risks to power system equipment.
  • Lead assessments for existing and future system restart ancillary services.
  • Lead the workstream of activities needed to support operational requirements for system strength and inertia.
  • Provide ad-hoc support to address power system security issues and develop high-quality technical reports documenting study outcomes.
  • Support the Manager in presenting technical findings to internal and external stakeholders and in people-management processes and development.

What you will bring to the role

  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering degree with a power system and/or power electronics focus.
  • Extensive experience in the field of power systems with experience in modelling and simulations.
  • Ability to lead and direct small to medium technical teams to drive technical outcomes for projects.
  • Deep understanding of power system dynamics and stability concepts with applications to power system operations.
  • Strong Knowledge of national electricity rules and principles of maintaining power system security.
  • Excellent report writing capability to document outcomes of detailed simulations and develop sound technical recommendations.
