Manager Payroll – Southern Region

Role Purpose:

We are seeking an experienced Manager Payroll to lead and manage the payroll function for our Southern Region.

This key role is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of large-volume weekly pay runs, overseeing payroll for wage employees, and ensuring compliance with relevant Enterprise Agreements (EBA’s), awards, and legislation.

As the Manager Payroll, you will work closely with the management team to deliver a high-quality payroll service, driving operational efficiency while ensuring statutory compliance and addressing any payroll-related issues. Your expertise in managing payroll for waged employees under multiple Enterprise Agreements is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Payroll Processing & Management: Oversee the processing of large-volume weekly pay runs for waged employees, ensuring the timely and accurate payment of wages across a complex payroll structure. This includes managing payroll for 1,000+ employees under various EBAs and industrial awards.
  • Enterprise Agreement Expertise: Leverage your deep knowledge of Enterprise Agreements (EBA’s) to ensure all payroll calculations and entitlements are compliant with award conditions and contractual obligations. Provide guidance on EBA interpretations and apply these to payroll calculations.
  • Compliance & Reporting: Ensure that all payroll-related functions are compliant with statutory requirements, including PAYG tax, payroll tax, superannuation, leave entitlements, termination pays, and other compliance issues. Generate weekly and monthly payroll reports and assist with ad-hoc reporting as required.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with key internal stakeholders, providing specialist support when business changes, such as network planning, EBA variations, and changes to employment conditions, are being contemplated.
  • System & Process Improvement: Assist in the continuous improvement of payroll processes and systems, ensuring a streamlined and accurate payroll function. Regularly review and audit the payroll system to ensure compliance with internal policies and relevant legislation.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead the payroll team, ensuring they have high-level system skills and are upskilled as needed. Maintain user manuals for payroll systems and ensure the team is fully equipped to handle payroll challenges.
  • Continuous Improvement: Actively identify opportunities to improve payroll accuracy, efficiency, and compliance. Participate in and lead payroll-related projects, ensuring best practices are implemented and adhered to.

Qualifications, Education & Experience:

  • Payroll Expertise: Extensive experience managing large-volume weekly payroll runs for waged employees (2,000+ employees), including those covered by multiple EBAs and awards.
  • Enterprise Agreement Knowledge: Strong understanding of Enterprise Agreements, award conditions, and how to apply them to payroll processes. Demonstrated experience in interpreting and implementing EBAs and awards within payroll systems.
  • Compliance & Reporting: Proven track record in ensuring payroll compliance with all statutory requirements, including tax, superannuation, and leave entitlements. Experience producing detailed payroll reports and managing payroll audits.
  • System Skills: Strong experience in payroll systems and high-level Excel or reporting skills. Comfortable with large datasets and ensuring data integrity.

What We Offer:

  • A dynamic and supportive work environment.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career progression.
  • Competitive salary and benefits.

If you have significant experience managing large payroll volumes, working with Enterprise Agreements, and ensuring compliance across complex payroll systems, we would love to hear from you

To apply, please submit your resume and a cover letter detailing your relevant experience.
