Centrecare operates a Homeless Assessment and Referral Service assisting people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to access accommodation and support options. 

The Role

The position is based predominantly in a call room environment where you will be conducting assessments with people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness, providing information and making referrals to accommodation and service providers. You will also conduct face to face appointments with clients. Clients may be experiencing a range of complex issues including domestic violence, substance use, mental illness and suicidal ideation.  

A Few Specifics.

  • High volume service requiring ability to build rapport quickly and engage clients via phone
  • Small team environment working closely together to support common clients
  • Data and client notes entered into client management software daily
  • Working on a rostered basis 150 hours per four week period, with shifts including, 8.30am-4.30pm, 9am-5pm and 11.15am-7.15pm, with one Saturday shift per month.

Skills and Experience

  • Recognised tertiary (Degree) level qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social Welfare, Mental Health, Substance Abuse, Youth Work, Behavioural Science and Aboriginal Studies, Community Services or related disciplines. (ESSENTIAL - Cert III OR IV will not be accepted for this role).
  • Demonstrated high quality assessment and interview skills.
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • High emotional intelligence and resilience 
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging and working effectively with young people, individuals, couples and families, who may be faced with multiple, complex issues.
