Job Description Permanent Full-Time Based in Darwin - NT Salary $80k-$90k

SGS is seeking a full time Chemist to join the team in Darwin. As public transport is unavailable, you will be required to make your own way to and from the facility.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Under guidance from Laboratory Analyst and scheduled programme requirements, coordinate and appropriately deploy resources for sampling and testing of in-process, environmental, and utilities facilities. Operate, calibrate, and conduct routine maintenance of analytical instruments with a high degree of precision. Skills with the following instruments are considered essential:  Gas Chromatography Induction Coupled Plasma Ion Chromatography Auto Titrators UV/Vis Photometry Maintain laboratory records in a systematic and logical manner. Specifically, maintain calibration records, analytical results, test reports, and maintenance records in the CoP intranet and LabLYNX LIMS system. Generate custom trend data and reports using a combination of LabLYNX and MS Office programs. Safely operate plant sampling stations for liquefied hydrocarbons, low- and high-pressure hydrocarbon gases, cryogenic liquids and hazardous aqueous liquids. Interpret piping and instrumentation diagrams and obtain process status to safely configure appropriate sample collection equipment. Assist with the development of analytical procedures. As part of procedure development, the chemist must apply systematic knowledge integration from different sources. Conduct custody transfer analysis of LNG products with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.  Assist with laboratory stock control and maintain adequate notification based on anticipated usage. Actively participate in the CoP safety programmes. Under assistance from CoP staff, undertake methodical job hazard analysis activities regarding sample collection and analytical chemistry.  Provide monthly activity reports on contract KPIs, instrument status, analysis summary, and off-site testing activities. KPI’s to be provided by ConocoPhillips. Minimise the need for oversight and duplication of Contractor’s activities by the Company. Exercise effective cost control for the Contract Goods and Services. 

Qualifications

The Ideal candidate will posses the following:

Tertiary qualification in chemistry or related discipline. Minimum of 4 years experience in an oil and gas industry laboratory with particular experience in sampling and analytical testing of liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons. Experience in the operation, optimisation and basic maintenance of analytical instruments, particularly gas chromatography, ion chromatography, UV/Vis photometry, and ICP instruments. Experience and hazard awareness associated with operating live gas plant sampling stations. Familiarity with the application of different sampling configurations. Understanding NATA/ISO 17025 accreditation and the requirements for a chemical testing laboratory and experienced in the use of a LIMS. Assist with laboratory method and quality procedures Physically fit due to required tasks and responsibilities. Meet site access requirements (ie: training, induction and medical requirements)
