What are we looking for?

An opportunity has arisen to join our highly regarded National Abuse Law team as Legal Counsel in NSW, QLD or ACT.   This role requires a strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of Abuse and Personal Injury law.   As a subject matter expert in Abuse Law you will be responsible for contributing to the development and success of your practice and the wider business.

Who are you?

• You will have superior technical expertise in abuse law.
• Function as an acknowledged expert in the abuse law practice area.

• Manage a portfolio of claims.
• You will work with senior practitioners, Counsel, experts and other third parties as required to distil and navigate complex legal issues.
• Build your brand as an expert in your field, working with our business development and media team.
• Effectively manage your own file load, business development and file management in accordance with the National Practice Standards and PMS baseline compliance
• Comply with the firm’s National Practice Standards.
• Other duties as directed.

What will you bring?

It is imperative that as a Legal Counsel at Slater & Gordon Lawyers you will be required to make regular complex decisions that will impact directly on your matters, but in consultation with your direct manager and wider practice managers, will assist in the development of the practice group. 

You will also bring the following skills and attributes:

• Proven post admission experience as a Personal Injury Abuse Lawyer.
• Sound legal technical experience with the ability to analyse case viability, superior case management exposure and achieving the best outcomes for our clients.
• An ability to build strong relationships with all levels of the team and the wider firm.
• Ability to mentor and support the career development of more junior staff members.
• Solution orientated problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
• Ability to handle sensitive issues and challenging issues.
• Ability to exercise judgement and resolve problems expeditiously.
• Demonstrated skills in effective network and relationship management.
• An understanding and/or qualification in psychology would be highly desirable.
• Taking a systematic and structured approach to work.
• Effective planning and delivery of projects
• Ability to show initiative and lateral thinking.
• Superior communication skills.
• Sound technical and functional skills to support others.
• A team player.
