Senior Internal Auditor 

The internal audit function within the Finance and Governance department is responsible in providing an independent and objective assurance to Management and the Board. The mission of internal audit is to enhance and protect AEMO’s organisational value by providing risk-based and objective assurance, advice, and insights to improve the control environment and achieve AEMO’s strategic goals.  

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Internal Auditor to join our internal audit team.  

In this pivotal role, you will be responsible to for executing our risk-based audit plan, developing robust audit strategies, and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships. You will leverage your audit expertise and your exceptional communication skills to influence continuous improvement in the control environment to ensure that our operations align with industry best practices.  

Role responsibilities  

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to build the assurance map and audit universe  

  • Lead and conduct the internal audits to assess design and operating effectiveness, ensuring timely completion of audits in accordance with established standards and methodologies. 

  • Deliver effective, clear and concise audit reports and presentations to Senior Management  

  • Monitor internal audit actions to ensure that remediation actions have been carried out to adequately mitigate risks.  

  • Manage co-sourced audits with third-party service providers, ensuring alignment with audit objectives and quality standards.  

  • Employ data analytics techniques to enhance the audit process, identify trends, and provide actionable insights that drive operational improvements.  

  • Build strong stakeholder relationships across the organization, facilitating open communication and collaboration to support audit initiatives. 

Experience and Knowledge  

  • Demonstrated internal audit and risk experience, leading the delivery of internal audit engagements or programs, preferably with experience in the Energy industry  

  • Experience in a wide range of audits including financial, operational and IT audits.  

  • Understanding of risk management frameworks, internal control frameworks.  

  • Strong knowledge of Internal audit standards, practices, and methodologies  

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organisation.  

  • Analytical mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to provide valuable insights for continuous improvement. 

Education/ Certificates 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, IT, Engineering or related fields  

  • Professional qualifications in CA, CPA, CIA, CISA or equivalent
