: This recruitment round is to add applicants to an established a merit pool for Youth Support Worker or Wellbeing Support Worker roles across ACT Public Schools in 2024. This may include positions in primary schools, high schools, and college campuses, as well as specialist schools.Youth Support Workers and Wellbeing Support Workers work alongside school staff to provide supports aimed at improving student engagement, participation, and wellbeing. These roles are responsive to the individual needs of the school and may include working with specific students, developing and delivering group programs, and contributing to school community activities.
Youth Support Workers, Wellbeing Support Workers and Wellbeing Officers may be required to work 1-1 with students who have an Occupational Violence Risk Assessment (OVRA). This may include liaising with the Occupational Violence & Complex Case Management team and school leadership towards implementing strategies outlined in student support plans.

The majority of schools employ these roles under the School Assistant 4 classification. School Assistant 4 roles have a standard weekly allocation of 33 hours 45 minutes per week, and a designated annual leave period. Occasionally schools employ a youth support worker or wellbeing support worker under the ASO 4 classification, which includes 36 hours 45 minutes per week and standard annual leave provisions.

Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) - Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - .Highly Desirable
Certificate IV or Tertiary qualification in Youth Work or a related field or willingness to obtain. Relevant experience in youth work, education, or a related area.Desirable
First Aid Certificate or a willingness to undertake appropriate training. Additional relevant qualifications or workplace training.Notes:
Positions may vary between part time and full time depending on the individual school, and contract lengths can range from three to 12 months, with the possibility of permanency. Successful applicants will be placed into a merit pool for a period of up to 12 months and will be considered for placement into a school-based role that best suits their skills, experience, and qualifications. Student Wellbeing Officer positions that are funded through the National School Wellbeing Program (NSWP) require a minimum qualification that must include competencies in mental health and making appropriate referrals and providing pastoral care, and/or working with youth. This will not affect an individual’s suitability to be placed in the merit pool. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.-
