In addition, there is also an opportunity available to join the NewbornsinSA research team as a Genetic Counsellor where you will work across both the Women's and Children's Health Network and State-wide Clinical Support Services Health Network to use specialist knowledge to provide genetic counselling, refer patients to specialist practitioners, consent patients for genomic testing and, contribute to reports and participate in research activities. You will be the key contact person for recruiting families into the NewbornsInSA research study and advising families of findings from genomic newborn screening.

The NewbornsInSA project is an MRFF-funded clinical translational research study to explore new models of genomic newborn screening. This research will employ a combination of untargeted metabolomic screening and whole-genome sequencing to identify newborns at risk of a genetic disease, perform confirmatory diagnostic testing and initiate early intervention. Our team of clinical investigators will ensure new diagnoses are translated into improved patient care and outcomes.
