The Role

Perched on the edge of the Great Dividing Range, Toowoomba is known as the Garden City and has a population around 160,000. It’s 90 minutes from Brisbane, 2 hours from the Gold Coast and 3 hours from the Sunshine Coast. Toowoomba is the hub for southern Queensland and offers a great lifestyle from the adventurous mountain bike and walking tracks to the serenity of the lush rainforests of the Bunya Mountains and wineries of the Granite Belt. Education and medical services are excellent and while a little chilly in winter, the other seasons are ideal. Shopping is well catered for with Grand Central Shopping Centre offering around 200 shops and restaurants in the one place. From the vast plains of the Darling Downs to the salad bowl of the Lockyer Valley the region offers a wide variety of opportunities and experiences.

Under routine direction of the Editor, ABC Southern QLD, you will create high-performing online stories, engaging videos for broadcast and digital platforms, audio news and packages for live radio and on demand, and have the opportunity to share the stories of local people and the community nationally.

The Job

Produce and present news bulletins, Q&As, interviews and packages across all platforms, including breaking stories. Write digital articles for the ABC News online, and create video content for broadcast, digital and social media platforms Contribute to planning and commissioning processes to develop and distribute new content ideas to achieve strong reach and engagement with audiences.  Identify and develop, in collaboration with colleagues, local content that can be shared with other content teams across the ABC on multiple platforms.

You have accomplished editorial skills, with experience in crafting stories that set the next day's agenda. You are able to work as part of a team, and independently. You want to connect with people and communities. You like hitting the road, meeting new people and you can give stories a heart.

You'll have:

Demonstrated experience in delivering breaking and original journalism for multiple platforms. Demonstrated understanding of the issues that affect and interest the local audience. A current and valid driver’s Licence
