Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic GP to join our team at St Mary Street Surgery. We have 6 sessions available.

We are a friendly, successful, 4 Partner practice situated in the heart of Thornbury committed to providing high quality patient health and care services to our 8700 patients and growing. Our cultural ethos is built upon some core values including safe, accessible and continuous service for each of our patients.

We hold a PMS Contract We use EMIS Web We provide a full range of enhanced services. We are high QoF achievers Have an active working relationship with our PCN member practices.

Main duties of the job

The role and responsibilities are quite typical of a general practitioner, including:

Surgery consultations - face to face and telephone as necessary Home visits Prescriptions Own case workload as well as a share of the admin workload including documents, reports and other queries Participation in practice meetings Involvement in progressing clinical areas in line with QoF requirements

About us

We are a friendly, social team and fair well in the annual GP Patient Survey. We have a growing list size, hence looking to expand our workforce.

We are also a GP training practice with 3 of the 4 Partners registered as trainers, therefore we commonly have at least one learner with us at any given time. In addition, we are supported by 2 part time salaried GPs, 2 ANPs, a highly successful nursing team and a dedicated and supportive reception and administrative team.

We operate a more traditional model of general practice. We are in the early stages of introducing care navigation, most of our appointments are face to face and we strongly believe in continuity of care. Our GPs & ANPs work collectively as a team to ensure the well being of each other.

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the salaried GP. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population The provision of services commensurate with the PMS contract Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance Effective management of long-term conditions Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks On a rotational basis, undertake telephone triage and duty doctor roles Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidance Working collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workload Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process Contribute to the successful implementation of continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the practice Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area (or areas) of the QOF Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as required Contribute effectively to the development and maintenance of the practice clinical governance, training and service improvement opportunities Involvement in applicable complaints and learning events Ensure compliance with the appraisal process Prepare and complete the re-validation process Commit to self-learning and instil an ethos of continuing professional development across the practice team Support the training of medical students from all clinical disciplines Support the partners in achieving the strategic aims of the practice Review and adhere to practice protocols and policies at all times Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, promoting a culture of continuous improvement at all times

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the salaried GP may be requested to:

Participate in practice audits as requested by the audit lead Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care Participate in the review of significant and near-miss events applying a structured approach root cause analysis (RCA) Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Qualified GP MRCGP Vocational Training Certificate or equivalent JCPTGP General Practitioner (Certificate of Completion of Training CCT)

Experience

Essential

Experience of working in a primary care environment Experience of continued professional development Experience of QOF and clinical audit Experience of medicines management Experience of CCG initiatives General understanding of the GMS/PMS contract

Desirable

* Demonstrates an understanding of the wider issues of health and social needs and care within the Primary Care setting *Demonstrates an understanding of health education, promotion and public health * Experience Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills *Self-motivation and adaptability to work independently *Approachable and flexible Confident networking skills *Proactive Team player * Ability to work under pressure * An interest in chronic disease
