About the Opportunity

The Community Connector will work alongside FPR Practitioners to support families to identify and link in with sustainable networks of universal, community and cultural supports, during their involvement with, and as they transition from, FPR Response services. 
Community Connectors are not expected to duplicate the role of lead practitioners, but rather provide supplementary supports and improve service delivery outcomes. 
Community Connectors will work flexibly with families, including during extended service hours (8 am to 8 pm) and on weekends. This will enable them to support families to access supports in their communities, at times and places that suit them. 
As an area based rather than an agency-based resource, Connectors will work with families accessing all services proving the FPR Response in their region. MCM is delivering the Community Connector role in the North East and Brimbank Melton regions. Connectors will support each other in their day-to-day work as well as in the co-facilitation of group-based programs and active holding of cases, where necessary.

About you

We are looking for someone who can:

Build capacity of local community, services, businesses and industry so that they can provide inclusive support for vulnerable families  Provide secondary consultation and advice to FPR Response lead practitioners  Work with the FPR Response lead practitioner to identify known risks, and proactively support families to implement safety plans, outside of usual business hours Work with the FPR Response lead practitioner to identify children and families requiring additional support to meet individual and family goals and aspirations  Work directly with children and families to support engagement in universal services and community activities. This may involve:  Support to enrol, and warm introductions to, maternal and child health, supported playgroups, kindergartens or schools; Support to sign up for and attend cultural or community events;

Essential:

A bachelor qualification in community development, early childhood development, youth work, psychology, social work or related tertiary qualification.  Experience working in family services, youth work, early childhood services, social work or a related field.  Sound understanding of the issues facing vulnerable parents, which impact on their ability to ensure the safety and wellbeing of their children.  Sound understanding of child development and the factors that can impede a child’s healthy development.  Significant experience in working with and providing active and assertive engagement with children, parents and their families, particularly for those with complex needs and those who are reluctant to accept services

Screening Criteria

National Police check Working with Children check and NDIS Worker Screening check or ability to obtain Valid Victorian Drivers license Right to Work in Australia Up to date with COVID-19 Vaccinations or valid medical exemption  MCM employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
