This role reports to the Head of Data & Analytics.  

How you will spend your time 

As an Analytics Engineer you will be expected to: 

  • Work with stakeholders i.e. data analysts, engineers and Business stakeholders data and technology engineers to understand and document their data requirements and to translate business knowledge into informational models. build reusable business centric data assets. 
  • Explore and profile data from transactional sources, client data and external data providers, mapping operational processes to data flows. 
  • Design and socialise and implement data structures (schemas, tables, views) which support a community of analytics platform users operating from a medallion architecture. 
  • Work closely with our data engineering chapter to define our analytics transformation framework (naming conventions, data organisation principles, coding practices, etc.) and roll-out this capability to analysts both in our team and wider analytics community. 
  • Perform testing and reconciliation activities for all newly developed assets, checking for completeness and integrity against established processes and highlighting data quality issues. 
  • Take ownership of the ongoing enhancement and evolution of our enterprise data model, working with platform users to triage and manage the promotion of tactical attributes and assets to a strategic state. 
  • Work alongside our data steward to document our conceptual and logical data model, and capture SME knowledge on specific assets and critical data elements in our catalog.

What you will bring 

  • You have business centric mindset to translate complex requirements into clear analytics assets and data structures.  
  • Experience designing and uplifting analytic workflows to enable quicker time-to-insights and reduce operational risk. 
  • Strong SQL skills and knowledge of data warehousing principals 
  • Experience working with prominent data modelling techniques on cloud data platforms (Data Vault, Kimball, Data Mesh). 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deploy robust, performant, and general-purpose analytical assets. 
  • Considered communication style and ability to educate analytics practitioners on the use of modelled assets. 
  • Experience working in an agile organisation, and familiarity with sprint cadences, Jira & Confluence. 

Desirable 

  • Previous work experience with the Databricks platform (highly desirable) 
  • Previous experience with dbt (Cloud or Core) 
  • Exposure to regulatory, financial and/or operational reporting 
  • A good sense of humour and an ability to express yourself through gifs and memes.
