THE ABRA PROJECT

The Abra base metals project is an underground lead-silver mine in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia. The project site lies between the towns of Newman and Meekatharra.

The Abra Mine construction and commissioning is completed, and is now in production.  The mine, located in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia, is one of the cleanest and largest undeveloped high grade, high value lead-silver deposits in the world. 

The underground ore mined will be processed through a conventional 1.3Mtpa processing plant, to produce a high-grade lead-silver concentrate that will be exported via the Geraldton Port.

Now in the Production phase, the operation has a projected 13-year mine life producing a high-value, high-grade lead-silver concentrate containing approximately 95kt of lead and 805koz of silver per year after ramp-up

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Senior Metallurgist, as Plant Metallurgist, you will be responsible for providing technical advice, information, and solutions to optimise the performance of the processing plant. This role will also initiate, and direct project work based on data and with the intention of delivering operational improvements.

In addition, you will be responsible for

  • Monitoring plant trends and data to identify plant optimisation opportunities.
  • Conducting plant improvement investigations and projects to improve recovery, increase grade and reduce costs.
  • Maintaining the integrity of the metallurgical accounting system.
  • Contributing to the development of test work.
  • Generating metallurgical reconciliations

ABOUT YOU

You will bring a strong knowledge of base metals flotation, advanced computer literacy and a comprehensive grasp of metallurgical accounting systems to the team. Your work ethic will be reliable, consistent, and always with high attention to detail. Current and previous co-workers would describe you as organised and methodical.

In addition, you will have

  • Minimum 2 years in a similar role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in extractive metallurgy, chemistry, or chemical engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to source, gather, interpret, and communicate quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Radiation Safety Licence.
  • Sound understanding of process control systems like Citect and FactoryTalk.
  • Previous experience in metallurgical accounting and reconciliation practices.
  • Current “C” Class Western Australian driver’s licence.

 Desirable

  • Flotation and base metals flotation experience (highly desirable).
  • Previous experience in feed blend planning (desirable).
