The Opportunity

Our client is a community focused Federal Government Agency. They have an exciting opportunity available for an APS5 Policy Analyst to join the Analytics and Data Division in ensuring quality Reform, Policy and Operational initiatives at Agency.

12 month initial contract with a likely chance of extension, offering an APS5 hourly rate of $55.24 + Super, to be based out of our clients Richmond office with 2 days working from home.

About the role

The APS 5 Policy Analyst is a project-based position, playing a key role in supporting policy analysis, consultation, and strategic planning within an assigned IEP project area. The role will be focused on investigating the planning process, factors contributing to plan budgets and outcomes. Advice will be based on document review, stakeholder consultation, existing policies and legislation. The position will have a considerable level of contact with internal stakeholders from across the portfolio, and may have some external stakeholder engagement responsibilities, such as coordinating meetings and workshops.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting in-depth analysis of policies, reports, strategies, and program/project plans related to Agency budgets and outcomes,
  • Supporting stakeholder consultations to gather insights on factors influencing scheme effectiveness,
  • Contributing to the conceptual development and refinement of impact/evaluation modelling (non-technical).
  • Preparing high-quality papers, briefings, reports, and other materials to communicate findings and recommendations,
  • Coordinating and participating in meetings and workshops with both internal and external stakeholders,
  • Working independently on assigned tasks and taking ownership of specific project components,
  • Collaborating with team members to integrate findings into broader project outcomes.

Essential criteria

  • Australian citizenship is a requirement to be eligible for this position
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to synthesise complex information from various sources,
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to prepare clear and concise reports and presentations.
  • Proven stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders,
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment,
  • Demonstrated capacity to understand and work with quantitative and qualitative data in policy contexts.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in social sciences, public policy, economics, or a related field,
  • 2-3 years of experience working in government or government consulting roles, preferably in areas related to social policy, disability services, or program evaluation,
  • Understanding of budget processes and outcome measurements in government programs,
  • Familiarity with impact evaluation methodologies,
  • Experience in applying analytical skills to complex policy or program issues,
  • Knowledge of current trends and debates relevant to the disability sector, the NDIS, and broader social policy in Australia.
