ABOUT THE OFFICE
The Information Technology Office (ITO) embeds an operating model with a view to enabling a greater level of engagement across the University, proactively serving as trusted advisors in the identification and prioritisation of continuous improvement initiatives and the delivery of digital technology change, whilst ensuring the ongoing availability of the IT environment.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Systems Engineer (Networks, Systems & System Administration) forms part of the Information Technology Services team that maintains the University’s network, infrastructure systems and related services.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain internal infrastructure which includes servers, routers, switches, firewalls, printers, security updates; LANs, WANs, and network segments, Laptop and desktop computers.
- Management of Windows Servers (Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, IIS, Group Policy, e-mail systems etc.,) Hosted on VMware
- Maintain the security and integrity of the network so that security policies are applied, and recommendations are made as needed.
- Backup Management of all local resources (Veeam backup product preferred)
- Interact with the help desk and other teams to assist in troubleshooting, identify root causes, and provide technical support when needed for escalated calls.
- Work with external vendors to ensure we have the best solutions and technologies in place.
- Perform routine/scheduled audits of the systems, including all backups.
- Management of LAN/WAN, and network segments
- Develop expertise to train internal staff on new technologies.
Qualifications, skills & experience
- A degree qualification with extensive relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant technical experience and/or education/training.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering technical solutions that focus on network infrastructure, identity and access management, collaboration tools, email, and authentication.
- Relevant experience working with modern workplace technologies including but not limited to Cisco Networking, Active Directory, AAF, ADFS, Sophos, Mimecast, Microsoft365, Windows Server, VMWare.
- Cisco CCNE qualifications (including experience with Cisco DNA/SDA, Next Gen Firewall, Integrated Configuration Environment (ICE)
- Demonstrated understanding of network architecture and operational network management techniques, and network security awareness.
- Using high-level problem solving and critical thinking skills to analyse and design a broad range of complex technological solutions that meet business needs.
- Effective communication skills to engage a variety of stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes.
