Hastings Deering is currently recruiting for a Leading Hand to join our expanding Mackay Parts Warehouse team. This is a permanent fulltime position working Monday to Friday day shifts and reporting directly through to the Parts Supervisors. The primary focus of this role is to drive and deliver safety, productivity and quality, team leadership for a team of 10 pax and to ensure our customers receive the best quality product and service.

In this varied and interesting role, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide active leadership to employees to improve safety, performance and deliver on customer expectations.

  • Train and develop others including coaching and mentoring.

  • Ensure all team members are working towards No Harm, through Safety interactions and proactive hazard reporting.

  • Ensure safety improvements are realised through regular communication and interactions with team.

  • Ensure safety goals are achieved through personal commitment, no harm to self or others and participation in safety initiatives.

  • Display fairness, build trust and maintain respectful relationships through open lines of communication vertically and horizontally.

  • Define and delegate work to be done with adequate resources and progress measurements.

  • Ensure opportunities for quality continuous improvement are identified and reported utilising the Caterpillar Production System (CPS) methodology’s.

About You

You will bring the following skills and experience to the role:

  • Demonstrate competence to show supportive and structured leadership in the workplace with experience in leading 10+ team members.

  • Skills to provide a very high level of customer service, whilst ensuring customer needs are addressed

  • Competent to promote team effectiveness, communicate up and down the chain of command and inspect others work to ensure high level quality assurance

  • Maintain a high level of workplace health and safety

  • Excellent planning and organisational skills

  • Committed to a No Harm Environment

  • Ability to maintain a safe and clean workspace

  • A continuous improvement commitment and positive attitude towards change

  • A proficient & motivated work ethic

  • Warehouse, Logistics, Manufacturing and or Industrial sector experience will be highly regarded.
