About the role 

  • Our tier 1 mining client is seeking a Senior Risk Advisor to support risk management and related governance activities across their sustaining capital project portfolio 
  • Reporting into the Principal Risk Advisor 
  • Perth based, Mon - Fri 

Responsibilities

  • Offer guidance to project leaders on potential risks they may have missed or underestimated by using project briefs, engaging with key stakeholders, benchmarking, or evaluating past performance.
  • Propose additional risk mitigation strategies that are proportionate to the identified risk level to enhance project outcomes.
  • Review project risk registers for completeness, biases, and compliance with established processes.
  • Facilitate risk workshops as needed.
  • Collaborate with estimators and planners to address budget and schedule risks, and recommend process improvements.
  • Analyze and summarize lessons learned to continually refine risk management, estimation, and scheduling practices across the portfolio.
  • Support the ongoing development of risk culture and capabilities throughout the organization.
  • Conduct risk analysis to inform decision-making and governance.
  • Provide risk insights at both the discipline and portfolio levels to guide leadership discussions at program and divisional levels.
  • Maintain and update risk management framework documents, tools, guides, and training materials.Promote a collaborative risk management environment and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.

Experience

  • Over 3 years of experience in major projects, mining, or a related industry.
  • Extensive expertise in conducting qualitative risk analysis and management.
  • Strong understanding of estimation and planning methodologies.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively and influence key stakeholders.
  • Capable of escalating risk discussions to management with consideration of strategic objectives, while making the information accessible to non-risk experts.
  • Familiarity with quantitative risk and control techniques, enabling appropriate referrals to specialists.
  • Skilled at providing constructive feedback to project leads while maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Able to advocate for risk management as a tool for project improvement, rather than just a compliance requirement.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently with integrity, prioritization, time management, and coordination in a dynamic, matrix-based organization.
