The Role

The Melbourne newsroom is seeking a highly motivated and experienced editorial leader to oversee a busy, dedicated team in delivering timely, innovative and original content to audiences on digital, mobile and broadcast platforms. The Job

In this key role you will: 

  • Commission and drive the creation of compelling journalism for all platforms that is timely, impactful, accurate and relevant for audiences.
  • Lead and oversee the delivery of breaking news to audiences on all platforms, ensuring a local perspective.
  • Develop and foster collaboration opportunities within the newsroom and with other teams across the ABC.
  • Work closely with both the Metro and Regional News Editor to assist in developing and implementing content strategies and initiatives consistent with overall ABC and ABC News direction.
  • Respond to editorial, technical and production issues to ensure fast, efficient and reliable delivery of news services.
  • Develop and inspire the team, fostering their growth and nurturing their skills.

About You

You’ll be a clear communicator with strong leadership skills and the ability to deliver on the strategic priorities of ABC News.

You will have proven editorial leadership experience and decision-making skills to ensure fast and effective responses to breaking news and a considered approach to news coverage.

You will also have:

  • A superior knowledge of news production in a multi-platform environment, including producing and commissioning journalism for digital, mobile and broadcast platforms,
  • Ability to exercise substantial editorial and creative autonomy and discretion, making immediate and sound decisions about content requirements under pressure.
  • Experience and understanding in using audience data for insights and the latest trends in audience behaviour to influence content creation on both digital and broadcast platforms.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team
