Eurofins Environment Testing Australia is an Environmental testing network of fully accredited laboratories. With a staff of over 200 our laboratories are located in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Client Service Offices located in Adelaide, Darwin, Newcastle and Wollongong. We also operate field sampling services out of Melbourne and Sydney. We specialise in all areas of Environmental analysis, including Contaminated Soil, Sludge, Sediments, Leachate, Soil Vapour, Trade Waste Effluents, Sewage Effluents, Stack Emissions, Work Place Air, Ambient Air, Dust, Drinking Water, Surface Water run off, River & Stream Monitoring, Seawater, and Groundwater.
Job Description
- Full-time, ongoing position based in Dandenong South.
- Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm
- Entry level position and great opportunity to be part of a global organisation that's on a growth trajectory.
- An extra 1.5% superannuation paid on top of the standard super rate.
This position will be involved with working in the first commercial microplastic testing laboratory within Australia, utilising Laser Direct Infrared (LDIR) Chemical Imaging System to detect and analyse microplastic particles in different matrices as waters, soil and sand. It will involve the analysis of routine samples as well as R&D projects and is suitable for individuals that thrive working independently and as well as part of a team.
Additionally, this is an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in working at the forefront of new technologies within the Environmental Chemistry sector.
This position is responsible for performing analytical methods, operating equipment/analytical instruments, and managing sample registration and disposal.
Primary focus will include but not limited to:
- Receive, register, and prepare routine samples for analysis in accordance with the given standard operating procedures.
- Evaluate the data generated by the instrumentation and prepare a customer report.
- Prepare and evaluate of bank and quality control samples.
- Complete all quality control records in accordance with quality requirements and work instructions.
- Manage the day-to-day laboratory workflow and schedule sample preparation and reporting dates.
- Communicate with key clients on operational matters.
- Perform operation, maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting of equipment when required.
- Perform small R&D method development studies under supervision of the technical team.
- Evaluate data for validation reports and participate in interlaboratory proficiency studies.
- Contribute to the training and mentoring of Laboratory Technicians and Interns in the tasks they are performing, as asked by the manager.
- Identify and report quality deviations and implement corrective and preventative actions.
Qualifications
Tertiary qualifications in Science or equivalent qualification; or equivalent experience.
About You
To be successful for this position, you will need to demonstrate the following experience and skills:
- At least two year’s laboratory experience; experience in an ISO17025 accredited laboratory will be an advantage.
- Experience in using different analytical equipment and sample preparation techniques; preferred is a background in infrared spectroscopy.
- A drive and commitment to learn, acquire and develop new skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to structure thoughts deliberately, logically, and directly with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work by themselves but also as part of a team.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills and the ability to multitask.
- Good knowledge of standard office applications, especially MS Word and MS Excel.
