About You :

What you’ll need to be successful in the role:

  • 3-5 years of experience working as a Registered Psychologist
  • At least 2 years experience working as a Behaviour Support Practitioner/Clinician and knowledge of NDIS requirements and legislation
  • Proven experience in evidence based psychological therapies (CBT, motivational interviewing, mindfulness, play-based therapies, positive behaviour support)
  • Experienced in working with people with disabilities in the capacity of providing psychological therapies and Positive Behaviour Support
  • Proven competence in administering and interpreting psychometric measures, such as WISC-V, WIAT-III, SB-V, etc.
  • Understanding of the NDIS environment and requirements of therapists.
  • Authentic, flexible, welcoming and well able to connect and communicate with children and their parents on an authentic level
  • Able to work collaboratively with a variety of allied health professionals to reach client goals  

Position Summary :

This is an opportunity to work with an experienced Psychologist working in a number of modalities (including CBT, counselling, EMDR and trauma-informed treatments, Neurofeedback, positive behaviour support, play therapy and other non-directive approaches).

You will be working as a Psychologist and Behaviour Support Practitioner in a small NDIS-registered Psychology practice. You will be working with children and adolescents (ages 2 ½ to 18 years), teachers and parents to provide support and address a variety of psychological concerns. You will be providing psychological therapies as well as psychological assessments.

Flexible hours are negotiable for the right person whilst considering the needs of our clients.

Key Requirements :

  • Registered Psychologist
  • Behaviour Support Practitioner/Clinician
  • Demonstrated skill in working as part of a multidisciplinary team with a sound understanding of your role as Psychologist delivering services to young people and their families in this context 
  • Demonstrated experience/interest in the provision of clinical, evidence-based assessment and interventions with young people and their families that present with mild to moderate mental health conditions or complex presentations related to cognitive impairment/suspected cognitive impairment
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written skills with particular emphasis on interpersonal communication skills, establishing trust and rapport, maintaining confidentiality and record keeping 
  • A team player who enjoys working as part of a team and will share your knowledge.
  • Able to work out-of-school hours, especially in the afternoons.
  • Holder of a current Working With Children Check.
  • Have received at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine or have an approved medical contraindication certificate/letter. You will be required to provide a record of your COVID-19 vaccination status if successful for this role.

Job Responsibility :

  • Undertake program on-site or via Telehealth, or as required in consolidation with Exercise Physiologist and at times, Behaviour Support team
  • Psychological treatment and counselling via 1:1 sessions and group-based programs
  • Conduct diagnostic assessments (ASD, ADHD, Mental Health, Personality Disorders)
  • Provide treatment and counselling to clients
  • Conduct Risk Assessments and initiate harm minimisation strategies and techniques, including Suicide and Violent risk – provide referrals and treatment if in line with program policies and guidelines
  • Communicate with other professionals internal and/or external to ensure transparent program initiatives 
  • Conduct initial intake assessment and comprehensive assessments to determine programs are tailored to each individual need
  • Relate to young people in a manner that is relevant and appropriate for their cognitive level of functioning 
  • Review program needs regularly to ensure best fit for program
  • Write Program reports and Assessment Reports as required 
  • Deliver Psychoeducational group sessions with Exercise Physiologist
  • Ensure maintenance of privacy and confidentiality in relation to client information in accordance with organisational policy, cultural protocol and professional ethics and guidelines
  • Incorporate a holistic approach to health and well-being that combines health promotion activities according to community and organisational priorities
  • Provide education to other non-program staff as required
  • Comply with all Professional Development and supervision requirements as per APS guidelines and frameworks
