The Salvation Army Australia’s Homelessness Stream provides high quality, person centred services to people at risk, and or experiencing homelessness. At House 49, we support adults and families, including accompanying children with accommodation, case management, outreach support, financial assistance, connection and referral to other specialist services.

The role you could play

We are currently seeking a values-driven and proactive Support Worker to maintain House 49 presentation and cleanliness, providing onsite security and safety while respecting the rights and privacy of residents and visitors . Other key responsibilities include:

  • Establish effective work relationships with key staff, managers, and other stakeholders, as appropriate
  • Proactively manage all incoming and outgoing building traffic while respecting the rights and privacy of residents and their visitors
  • Monitor building activity and security via CCTV and regular walking patrols.
  • Provide an immediate and appropriate response to incidents that impact on resident safety and security in accordance with site policies and procedure
  • Respond to and manage critical incidents and emergencies
  • Manage resident’s afterhours access
  • Undertake cleaning and minor maintenance tasks to ensure all common spaces are maintained to the highest standard of presentation

This is a part time position, 30hrs per week, with the opportunity to work additional hours for suitable candidates. The successful candidate will be required to work a mixture of shifts with some overnight shifts included.

Reporting to the House 49 Facilities Coordinator this position is located at Darwin City, Northern Territory. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Level 2 Award.

The ideal candidate would have

  • Demonstrated previous experience working in a similar position
  • Experience working with people who may not have English as a first language.
  • A current NT Drivers Licence
  • Valid NT Employee Working with Children Check
  • Ability to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
