Key responsibilities of this role include: 

1.Leading and advising in relation to the legal workstream on energy projects from early stage development through to operations, including:

  • Advising on acquisitions, sell downs, joint ventures, project development and commercial contracts in the energy sector
  • Working closely with the project finance and technical teams to drive transaction deliverables consistent with project timelines
  • Managing, drafting and/or reviewing legal documents and overseeing external lawyers, where relevant
  • Identifying key project commercial and legal risks and preparing proposed solutions
  • Managing project budgets in relation to the legal workstream
  • Attending and providing support for internal review and approval processes

2. Reporting and providing support to General Counsel in relation to development projects, investments and general corporate governance/compliance matters

3. Assisting General Counsel generally in the provision of timely and commercial legal advice to the business

4. Assisting with the continuing development of Pacific’ templates, processes and procedures

Key requirements for this role are: 

  • Practising lawyer with 10+ years’ experience
  • Qualified to practice as a solicitor in an Australian state and holding a current practising certificate (although we would consider lawyers qualified in other common law jurisdictions)
  • Strong technical skills gained from a top tier law firm or leading in-house team in transactional areas of law 
  • Excellent drafting skills
  • Ability to identify legal and commercial risks presented by project contracts and propose practical commercial solutions to managing or mitigating the risks
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly
  • A firm and broad understanding of and experience in areas of law that are of commercial relevance to energy projects, such as construction/EPC contracts,  project finance or  corporate/M&A. 
  • High level relationship management and communication skills across a broad range of stakeholders, including other members of the Pacific Partnerships team, co-investors, EPC and O&M partners, suppliers and offtake clients. 
  • Deep transactional experience with good organisation and project management skills.
