The Role
The Chief, Environmental Test (EL 1) is a critical appointment within the Joint Proof and Experimental Unit. It is focused on the management including planning, coordination and execution, of environmental test of guided weapon and explosive test.
Key tasks include:
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team
The Environmental Test Facility supports guided weapon and explosive ordnance test and evaluation activities by conducting explosive ordnance test and evaluation trials. The Environmental Test Facility has capabilities enabling the climatic, non-destructive, vibration and mechanical testing of items, and other elements for artificial aging of Defence guided weapons and explosive ordnance. The team works with exciting technology that aids in the provision of test outcomes, such as state of the art conditioning chambers (heating / cooling), vibration shakers and radiographic capabilities.
Our Ideal Candidate
JPEU is looking for an agile and enthusiastic individual who possesses strong technical, operations and leadership skills and a commitment to achieving organisational goals and objectives. Importantly, they will have the ability to develop good relationships and support networks across a wide array of stakeholders.
Our ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in guided weapon and explosive ordnance environmental test management and regulation including test design, measurement practices, logistics planning, assurance and asset management. This includes the management of test specification interpretation and implementation for guided weapon and explosive ordnance environmental test activities. An understanding of Lean / Continuous Improvement methodologies would be advantageous.
Our ideal candidate is an explosive test professional who can lead a team of explosive test professionals. They will be an excellent communicator and be able to influence outcomes over directing actions.
The successful candidate takes the initiative to achieve quality test outcomes. They will be dynamic and keen to continuously improve systems and processes in an effort to ensure that the team and organisation use lean methodologies.
The successful candidate will be proficient in the use a wide range of tools to aid in carrying out their work such as Microsoft Office tools, modelling applications and other IT systems.
