About the Role:

The Grounds Manager at John Paul College is hands-on and highly visible role around the campus with a high day to day interaction with a large range of College staff and students. The role requires physical fitness, a strong work ethic and a friendly disposition.

This role will be responsible for leading the Grounds Team in general support tasks such as traffic control, equipment set-up, cleaning and emergency response.

The successful applicant will assist with various operational, compliance and training requirements in addition to the conduct of supervision and maintenance tasks. The successful candidate will be directly involved with:

  • Team Leadership: Manage and supervise the Grounds Team, ensuring they are well-trained and qualified for their roles.
  • Grounds Maintenance: Maintain College grounds, outdoor areas, and playgrounds to a very high standard with a focus on safety, compliance, visual appeal, and sustainability.
  • Support Requests: Manage and action support requests submitted by College staff as required.
  • Renovations and Landscaping: Develop and carry out renovations and landscaping projects to enhance the College environment.
  • Water Management: Develop and maintain efficient watering and irrigation systems, ensuring effective water management practices are followed.
  • Equipment Management: Manage and account for all plant and equipment used by the Grounds Team.
  • WHS Compliance: Ensure compliance with Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements in all work practices undertaken by the Grounds Team and external contractors.
  • Budget Management: Develop, in consultation with the Facilities Manager, an annual budget and ensure efficient and effective expenditure in support of the College’s strategic objectives.
  • Waste Management: Oversee rubbish and waste management, including bins and waste removal, through the waste management contract.
  • Fuel Management: Manage and oversee all fuel management practices within Property Services.
  • Event Support: Provide support for and help organise College events and functions when required.
  • Signage and Traffic Management: Maintain signage and manage traffic throughout the College.
  • Emergency Response: Coordinate and assist with first response in the event of an emergency.

About you:

As the Grounds Manager at John Paul College, you will oversee and enhance the maintenance of our College's outdoor areas.

You will possess strong leadership skills, a commitment to safety and sustainability, and a keen eye for detail to ensure our grounds are maintained to the highest standards.

You will also have the following essential attributes:

  • Experience in management and supervising teams
  • Computer literacy (including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel)
  • Strong communication skills and a high level of professionalism
  • Experience within a fast-paced, high volume, very diverse, sports, retail, leisure, education, and events industry or similar.
  • The ability to support stakeholders in change management and be a team player
  • High level interpersonal leadership and the ability to generate engagement at all levels
  • Experience in organizing, consulting, and negotiating with contractors and visitors
  • Previous maintenance/facilities management experience, preferably in a school environment

Compliance requirements for this role will also require you to provide evidence of the following:

  • Trade certificates or qualifications relevant to project and maintenance management.
  • Positive Paid Blue Card / Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain this by your start date)
  • Driver’s License (Open License)
  • Current First Aid and CPR (or ability to obtain).
