Cloud/infrastructure Architect

Our client is embarking on an 18-month program to replace its on-premise compute capability. This will involve developing a 5- t0 10-year compute strategy and investment roadmap that will inform this replacement. The Client is looking for a Cloud/Infrastructure Architect with experience in technology roadmaps and migration from physical to virtual compute capability. The engagement will be a rolling 6-month contract in the Greater Melbourne, VIC area.

The Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating various options to move forward with between a replacement on-premise solution, hybrid cloud or migration of servers for storage and backups to a Cloud solution. Subsequently you will work with key vendor partners and Client internal Technology team members to develop requirements, design and build a solution.

This position offers a highly motivated, proactive and knowledgeable compute architect the opportunity to influence the outcome of the largest infrastructure spend for our client.

Key responsibilities:

• Excellent knowledge of compute trends and technologies to influence compute strategy.
• To work with vendor partners to develop a compute strategy and infrastructure road map.
• Provide oversight on the scope of the project and vendor partner's deliverables for a compute solution to meet the Client's current and future requirements.
• To collaborate with the Technology team stakeholders, for example Cyber Security and Networking team, to integrate a refreshed compute solution within the overall Technology environment.
• To drive documenting functional and non-functional requirements for replacement of the compute solution across servers, virtualisation, storage and backup solution.
• To work with vendor partners to deliver a design to meet functional requirements.
• Oversee the deployment and configuration of replacement compute resources.
• To provide leadership and oversight of the application, storage and backup migrations.
• Provide input into key compute processes and platforms that are candidates for automation and provide input into a cost benefit analysis.
• To liase with the technology leadership team and existing projects to ensure that the replacement compute solution caters to organic and project growth requirements for new technology adoption, eg. containerisation or software defined networking.
• Play an advisory role in operation of our clients compute assets and its management by a Managed Service provider, and more specifically optimising resource utilisation and other ITIL functions.

Skill Set:

• At lease 5 years as an Infrastructure Architect and experience with Cloud Migration roadmaps and strategies.
• Knowledge of virtualised compute equipment and management/ monitoring tools.
• Knowledge of Cloud compute options, hybrid cloud solutions, cost models and migration strategies.
• Knowledge of various compute architecture patterns and design principles.
• A deep understanding of backup and restore solutions.
• An appreciation of networking for compute infrastructure and cloud compute network strategies.
• Hands on understanding of VMWare management platforms & reporting.
• Hands on understanding of application migrations and VMWare solutions.
• Solid financial modelling experience.
• Effective verbal, written and presentation communication skills.
