The Role
The Terminal Procedures Specialist works as part of a small team within Aeronautical Information Service - Air Force (AIS-AF) that is responsible for designing and coding Instrument Flight Procedures and generating navigation database products.

Instrument Flight Procedures (IFP) are designed and coded in accordance with international standards, are currently provided in both electronic (digital) and paper formats, and are widely used by Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel in support of flying operations globally. AIS-AF’s digital products are updated every 28 days and are provided in a variety of data formats for use in aircraft flight management systems, flight simulators, and air traffic management applications.

The Terminal Procedures team is a dynamic environment with time pressures to meet International Civil Aviation Organisation distribution cycles and short notice Australian Defence Force contingencies to ensure a seamless production process from sourcing flight critical aeronautical information through product compilation, to publication, and ultimately product distribution.

About our Team
Aeronautical Information Service - Air Force (AIS-AF) is an Air Force unit responsible for the provision of timely, accurate and relevant Aeronautical Information Publications (AIP) that supports Australian Defence Force (ADF) operations globally. AIS-AF is responsible for the production of both paper and digital AIP with a specific focus on Australia, Asia and the Indo-Pacific region.

The majority of work is conducted in an office environment at Victoria Barracks - Melbourne utilising proprietary design tools, geospatial databases, desktop publishing software and standard Microsoft applications.

Our Ideal Candidate
 As the ideal candidate, you will be highly analytical, detail oriented, and have a focus on applying technical expertise in support of Defence capability. You will have a high level of personal drive and demonstrate experience working collaboratively in a supportive team environment, participating in regular reviews of technical outputs as well as a willingness to learn and be challenged.

To be successful in the role you will understand and apply a variety established mathematical concepts and formulas in conventional and performance-based navigation Instrument Flight Procedure coding and design. You will have the ability to interpret relevant international standards, apply these to design processes, and verify compliance to such standards. 

Experience in a technical aviation-related role (e.g. aeronautical information management, instrument flight procedure design, air traffic control, flight operations etc.) would be advantageous. Candidates who have completed an aviation-related STEM Degree are also encouraged to apply.
