About the role

The BIOC Senior Family Support Specialist will work alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families engaged in the Jajumbora BiOC midwifery program.

In collaboration with the wider team, you will act as an advocate and support for the families to increase family safety and support, with the aim to reduce or eliminate Child Safety interventions. 

The BIOC Senior Family Support Specialist will provide a coordinated and holistic approach to case management, ensuring that the families are empowered to build on their strengths and connection to community.

In addition, the BIOC Senior Family Support Specialist will take on a leadership role in the team, by guiding the Family Support Workers to help improve their practice efficacy and improve the outcomes for the families that we support.

Duties

  • Build connections with families, elders, community and stakeholders to increase family safety and support for clients.

  • Complete assessments with families to identify family strengths, areas of development and any risk and or child protection concerns. 

  • Advocate for families and reduce risks through embedding supports and building community connections through proactive and culturally grounded case management.

  • Cultivate productive working relationships at all levels, which support the nurturing of internal and external relationships.

  •  Guide and mentor the Family Support Workers

  • Maintain a high level of administrative and compliance tasks related to the role.

  • Permanent Full Time

  • Salary starts from $94,305 per annum

  • 11.5% Super + Not for Profit Salary Packaging (Increases your take home pay).

Essential  

Qualification and/or Experience:  

  • Current Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Social Science, Health, Allied Health, Youth Work, Community Services, Family Intervention or Criminology with 2 years’ relevant experience in family support, child protection, youth support or related field  

OR  

  • Current Diploma in Community Services, Social Work, Human Services, Child and Family, Allied Health, Youth Work, Child and Family Intervention with 3 years’ relevant experience in family support, child protection, youth support or related field  

AND  

With at least 1 years of above mentioned experience in a case management role.

Skills and Knowledge:  

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in working with Child Safety legislation and frameworks 

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the factors contributing to vulnerability, disengagement, and intergenerational trauma of client group  

  • Demonstrated ability to build client agency, self-efficacy and facilitate change through client empowerment. 

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate holistic care for clients  

  • Experience with case management for high risk and/or crisis clients, with high-level planning and organisational skills.      

  • Experience in mentoring staff  and leadership roles

  • Current drivers’ licence
