The Role:

The role is to support the wellbeing of Indigenous students at Bendigo TAFE and Kangan Institute, this includes;

Deliver a range of counselling, welfare, emergency relief and advisory services to current Indigenous students and staff, with referral to internal/external stakeholders as required.Assess for, and manage, emerging, acute, and complex student mental health issues, including student risk, student suicide ideation or attempted suicide and provide evidence-based assessment and short-term psychological interventions to support student mental health.Facilitate psychosocial education programs on a range of different topics that address mental health awareness, wellbeing and support options.Undertake complex support and management to children and young people in line with the Child Safety Standards

Connection to Indigenous community and eldersDeep understanding of the societal issues facing Indigenous studentsTertiary qualification and experience in counselling, social work, psychology or community services with eligibility for membership in relevant regulatory bodies:Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA)Australian Counselling Association (ACA)Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)Australian Psychological Society (APS) orAustralian Community Workers Association (ACWA)Or, lesser formal qualification with extensive experience/management expertise or a combination of relevant experience and/or education and training
