About the role:

The Risk Officer (RO) function within Credit Risk Management Australia is an independent pro-active risk management role within the second line of defence. The main responsibility is to oversee the credit granting process as it relates to Wholesale Banking business and a subset of clients within the Country Banking business representing Major Agri Clients with post farm gate operations, investment funds or investment sponsored transactions. The role includes transaction approval within delegated authority under the Credit Risk Approval Framework

The RO challenges the first line of defence and engages with Second / Third line colleagues on a timely and proactive basis to achieve and maintain a high quality portfolio by reducing credit and operational losses, ensuring that risks (financial & non-financial) are properly identified and addressed and that trends are recognized and acted upon.

The Risk Officer Wholesale Banking and MAC, Manager engages with the business at a transaction level providing initial risk input and deciding upon / providing risk advice to approving authorities on submissions.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities: 

  • Responsible for second line transactional engagement with the Wholesale Banking and Country Banking business from origination through to approval. Ensure that risks are properly identified and clients and transactions fit the risk appetite whilst acting as a decision maker within delegated authority
  • Independently forms an opinion on the acceptability of the risk, in terms of credit, structure, legal, tax and commercial aspects, to ensure high quality and timely decisions are made to facilitate an effective approval process.
  • Approving credit applications under Rabobank’s Group Credit Risk Approval Framework.
  • Detect changes in the internal and external context, including changes to risk criteria and the risk itself which can require revision of risk treatments and priorities (Risk Appetite Statement, Policies and Procedures)
  • Engages within other Risk Departments and Risk Officers to ensure quality of decision taking, portfolio management and adequate engagement with 1st line business and other stakeholders across other departments

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Prior experience in a similar role of which, with exposure to Large and Complex transactions.
  • A thorough understanding of Credit Risk Management within the financial services industry and related regulatory standards (ECB, APRA).
  • Understanding of banking and finance operations.
  • Experience with complex capital structures and related transactions.
  • Understanding of corporate and wholesale products.
