Position: Motor Mechanic

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $70,000 plus 11% superannuation per annum

Location: Sunbury VIC 3429

Our client is seeking an experienced full-time Motor Mechanic to undertake electronic diagnostics as well as service, repair and overhaul the mechanical parts of motor vehicles such as the engine, the transmission (clutch, gear box and differential) the suspension systems (springs, steering, brakes, wheels and tyres).

Tasks required include:

  • Discuss problems with workshop controller and/or service advisors to identify faults, listen to engines and operate special test equipment and test drive vehicle to ascertain faults
  • Identify problems, determine relationship between cause and effect and examine information from different sources to determine best course of action
  • Complete vehicle details on requisition order – kilometres, engine number, registration number, etc
  • Repair or replace worn and faulty parts by removing assemblies such as engines, transmissions, differentials or steering gear; dismantle them and check parts, referring to manuals as necessary
  • Reassemble, test, clean and adjust repaired or replaced parts or assemblies, use various instruments to make sure they are working properly and put them back into the vehicle
  • Perform preventive maintenance such as checking fluid levels, brake systems, steering, generating, ignition and electrical wiring systems
  • Carry out minor body repairs and minor trim repairs
  • Diagnose, repair and replace engine management/fuel injection components
  • Use electronic test equipment to locate and correct malfunctions in lighting, instrumentation, electronic fuel injection, ignition and emissions control systems
  • Inspect vehicles for roadworthiness and/or list the work required before a certificate can be issued
  • Supervise apprentices when required
  • Maintain the appearance and presentation of services area as well as ensure tools and equipment are clean and tidy at all time
  • Return specialist tools and reference materials to their designated locations
  • Ensure hazardous substances are disposed of appropriately
  • Follow occupational health and safety practices

  • All safety standard have to be met and use safety equipment at all times when needed.

Requirements:

  • Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or Certificate IV in relevant Mechanical field appropriate to Australian automotive industry standards
  • At least two (2) years of prior relevant experience
  • Valid and unrestricted drivers licence.
