Join The Team
They are a privately-owned SME located in Melbourne's Eastern Suburbs (Bayswater North, Victoria), and seeking an experienced Operations Manager (GM) to lead their operations. This is both an operational and strategic role that involves getting down in the details and managing multiple facets of operations. Reporting directly to the Director and playing a key role in the leadership team, you will:

  • Oversee all aspects of their operations, focusing on cost management, productivity, and overall growth.
  • Enhance productivity and profitability while ensuring project and service quality.
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental standards, including ISO accreditation, VicRoads, and Chain of Responsibility (COR).
  • Manage safety, risk and drive compliance across Fleet, Subcontractor Management, and operational areas. 

Role:
As the GM - Operations, you will be:

  • Be the key lead in the business’s performance and it’s sustainability of growth
  • Deep dive into operations, educating and upskilling crew leads, foremen, supervisors and managers.
  • Responsible for P&L for each operating unit, driving revenue and profit growth.
  • Oversee the compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental standards, maintaining ISO, VicRoads, and COR accreditations.
  • Improve processes, set performance measures to reduce downtime and waste and enhance productivity and profitability.
  • Collaborate on strategic plans and tenders.
  • Partner with Finance, Business Development Manager and People & Culture Business Partner in all core aspects of the business.
  • Manage subcontractors – contracts, standards, Foster a positive “just safety” culture, promoting strong team practices, financial /productivity practices to all levels and deliver in way they understand

About you
Having extensive experience in the Civil Construction industry, ideally working your way up through the ranks, you’ll have a strong understanding and appreciation for all aspects of operations and the key drivers in blue collar environment. You’ll have worked in project-based organisations, such as road construction, and bring:

  • Financial Acumen: Demonstrated capability in Profit & Loss responsibility
  • Safety, Risk and Compliance: Strong focus on safety, risk mitigation, and maintaining ISO and VicRoads accreditation.
  • Sub-contractor and Project Management: Experience in effectively managing external resources and project costs including contract and compliance management.
  • People Management and Team Development: Skilled in upskilling as well as setting, driving, and monitoring KPIs to enhance team performance.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written, verbal, and listening communication.
  • Organisation and Culture Improvement: Experience in enhancing culture and team morale, understanding and driving right organization requirement by knowing roles/responsibilities/outputs and improvements with efficiencies always front of mine.
  • Adaptability: Ability to be hands-on, get things done and maintain a strategic focus.
