About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated Auslan Tutor Support to assist our teacher in delivering effective Auslan (Australian Sign Language) instruction. The ideal candidate will have proficiency in Auslan and experience working with individuals or groups in educational settings. This role is crucial in providing additional support and guidance to students, ensuring they grasp the language concepts effectively.

Duties:

  • Work cooperatively with the Auslan trainer to ensure planned activities meet the needs of the students.
  • Assist students in the classroom with role-plays; signing/conversational practice and/or as directed by the teacher.
  • Participate in any relevant training programs, contribute feedback on the course content, resources including local information and new ideas to further improve the course delivery.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Be an active member of the local deaf community and be fluent in Auslan
  • Be able to relate and engage well with people from a range of different backgrounds
  • Be professional, engaging, be able to respond to student needs
  • Demonstrate good time management and organisational skills
  • Have empathy for people learning Auslan and be sensitive to the learning needs of students
  • Current Working with Children Check (Employee) – mandatory.
  • Current National Police Check – mandatory.
