Our Operations and Maintenance and Planning group have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Intervention Planning Leader to join their Advanced Operational Resilience team

The Operations and Maintenance Planning Group is accountable for optimizing the performance of Urban Utilities' Water and Wastewater Networks, ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction for over 600,000 properties and 1.3 million customers in our service regions. This includes planning maintenance for the entire asset base. Recognising the complexity of this task, the Group has adopted a functional matrix structure to achieve performance outcomes.

The Intervention Planning process delivers plans to manage safety and service risk, ensuring work on the network occurs at the right time, first time without impact to safety or service. This approach safeguards safety, public health, and the environment while providing a positive customer experience, reducing long-term costs, and ensuring compliance with regulations and safe drinking water standards. Reporting to the Manager of Advanced Operations Resilience, the Intervention Planning Leader ensures optimal function and staff performance to manage safety and service risks for network activities. Responsibilities include:

  • Motivating the team and setting clear performance expectations.

  • Cultivating a culture of learning and continuous improvement.

  • Leveraging and expanding knowledge to enhance performance.

  • Managing processes for timely, quality inputs and outputs.

  • Expanding the use of systems, technology, and automation.

  • Continuously improving knowledge, processes, and technology.

  • Coaching, training, and developing team members.

Success in this role will be measured by:

  • The effectiveness of processes in meeting performance targets

  • The impact of continuous improvement initiatives for team and process performance

  • The maturation of knowledge, process, and systems (business capability) use to perform.

  • The development, engagement, and empowerment of team members in the workplace

About you:

  • Education: Relevant degree in engineering

  • Preferred Skills: Experience or qualifications Lean Six Sigma, production management or water & sewer network engineering in an operation environment (at least one required)

  • Experience: Proven track record in team/functional continuous improvement

  • Technical Understanding: Ability to understand the technical aspects of operating a water utility and associated regulatory obligations

  • Communication: Strong interpersonal and written communication skills with the ability to translate technical topics into corporate terms to effectively communicate opportunities and risks

  • Adaptability: Capacity to manage and shift priorities to support changing business needs

  • Data Proficiency: Knowledge and experience with data analysis, visualization, and science tools

  • Client Relationships: Proven ability to build strong client and customer relationships

  • Leadership: Passion for leadership with experience in coaching and mentoring team members

  • Culture Building: Ability to foster a transparent, accountable, and high-performance culture in line with organisational values
