Your role

We are hiring for two roles in the Diversion team within the Women Family and Community Safety (WFCS) Directorate.

We are looking for looking for a passionate, self-motivated and collaborative candidates, who bring strong program and policy skills to lead key projects to divert vulnerable offenders from the Criminal Justice system, including through programs addressing Mental Health and Cognitive Impairment (MHCI) and Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD).

The Diversion team develops policy and programs that improve responses for vulnerable and complex people in contact with the criminal justice system. This includes designing and delivering policy and programs for offenders or alleged offenders aimed at:

supporting people with MHCI addressing problematic AOD substance use improved driving behaviour

A key focus of this team is also to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in contact with the criminal justice system, though strategic program delivery and policy development.

What you’ll do

You will lead key policy projects related to the diversion of people effected by MHCI issues and AOD use from the criminal justice system. You will lead policy development, manage program delivery, commission evaluations, undertake procurement and coordinate stakeholders across agencies to address ongoing system gaps. Further, you will provide strategic advice on emerging program and policy issues to progress key opportunities for system improvement.

What we’re looking for

Significant experience leading the development and delivery of strategic projects related to MHCI and AOD in the context of the NSW criminal justice system, or other similar experience with criminal justice reform and/or individuals with complex needs. Educational qualifications or professional training in a related field. Strong analytical skills, in practice, data and written form. Experience in project management and strong ability to build purposeful partnerships across the Department and with Government partners. Strong ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders, coordinate and support program strategic and operational governance groups.
