The Role

Reporting to the Supervisor Parks Services or Supervisor Mowing and Reticulation, this role is responsible maintaining and improving the City’s parks, reserves and streetscapes to a high standard for its residents and ratepayers.

Key duties of the role include:

  • Carrying out horticultural duties required to maintain and improve the City’s parks, reserves and streetscapes such as mowing, weeding and planting in a timely manner and as directed by the Coordinator and/or Supervisors of Parks Services.
  • Testing, trouble shooting and repairing irrigation systems in the City’s parks, reserves and streetscapes.
  • Participating in job rotation in accordance with the multi skilled requirements of the Parks Services Section, as and when required and directed to do so by the Coordinator and/or Supervisors of Parks Services.
  • Ensuring works requests received are implemented in a timely manner and the work quality is of the highest standard.
  • Providing a high level of internal and external customer service and comply with the City’s Customer Service Charter at all times

The Candidate

  • White card and current WA “C” Class Driver’s Licence required
  • Current “HR” Class Driver’s Licence desirable
  • Horticultural qualifications (or progress towards) highly desirable
  • Knowledge of horticultural practices with an emphasis of waterwise practices
  • Ability to work in accordance with recognised safe practices, WorkSafe WA requirements and the City's policies and procedures
  • Experience in horticultural practices including planting, pruning techniques, weed control, turf management and fertiliser application
  • Experience in the use and maintenance of equipment including chainsaws, pedestrian mowers, hedgers, edgers and brush cutters essential.
  • An eye for detail and the ability to ensure daily tasks are completed on time.
