The primary purpose of this position carry out mechanical repairs, including the pre-programmed maintenance requirements, on mobile and stationary plant. Develop sustainable working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders to contribute to site safety, quality and environment controls and risk management.

Reporting to the Plant Maintenance Supervisor, the Mechanic role will be responsible to carry out mechanical (and some electrical) works on plant & equipment in both workshop and field environments, to ensure our fleet remains safe and operational for our projects. This position will at times require travel around the Newcastle and Sydney regions as well as into regional NSW to conduct plant scheduled preventative services, urgent corrective works and/or plant equipment mechanical support on major construction projects. This is primarily a Monday to Friday role 6:00am – 2:30pm but may require overtime, shift work and occasionally some weekend work.

Carry out all services, scheduled maintenance and repairs to vehicles, plant & equipment in the workshop or field as instructed by your supervisor. Report consumable usage to supervisor to ensure adequate stocks of spare parts are available. Record works performed and provide vehicle, plant and equipment information by completing work orders, timesheets/service sheets to meet standards and timeframes. Ensure plant and equipment is in a safe operating condition and complete plant fault reports/component tagging where required. Carry out machine fault diagnosis Utilise and interpret schematics/drawings, service and parts manuals. Maintains control of electrical/mechanical spare parts/consumable field stocks in field vehicles where applicable. Provides support for other team members. Assist with the provision of on the job training in conjunction with tradespersons and trainers. Report on misconduct, misuse or abuse of company property. Ensure the SQERM process including WRA, AMS, TRA and start cards are reviewed/signed off and actions in place prior to works commencing  Communicate and engage with relevant stakeholders to control risk and build a positive risk management culture. Contribute and implement continuous improvement opportunities in safety, quality, environment and maintenance. Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems and procedures Ensure compliance to Rail Safety & WHS requirements.

Relevant Trade Certificate Valid C-class drivers’ licence
