The role

Based in Brisbane, The Health & Safety (H&S) Operations Manager is accountable for providing leadership across the Sunwater H&S Operations Team and providing mechanisms for management of health & safety risk. In addition, the role should ensure fit for purpose systems and procedures are in place to provide assurance regarding operational health and safety compliance.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Management of health and safety risk both through direct means and by providing advice to other operational business units.
  • Develop and implement work and assurance programs for health and safety initiatives relevant to Sunwater operational requirements.
  • Lead a team of regionally based health and safety staff to provide health and safety partnership support and advice across Sunwater.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of the Health and Safety Management System and Operational tools ensuring they meet current and future business requirements.
  • Measure and report key health and safety performance indicators against agreed parameters, as well as the execution of the agreed strategy and plan, highlighting shortcomings and areas of excellence.
  • Provide the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and Board with valid, reliable, and information on the current state of health and safety factors to enable timely and effective intervention.

About you

We are looking for someone with approximately 10 plus years working in a health and safety management team in a water service provider/ water utility business or a contracting organisation servicing the water industry. In addition, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline
  • Ability to provide expert advice across Sunwater on high level policies, standards and procedures in accordance with occupational health and safety legislative requirements, embedding safety strategies and behaviours.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills (listening, negotiating, influencing and conflict management)
  • Demonstrated experience at a health and safety management level with a proven track record in implementing health and safety initiatives to achieve behavioural and cultural change in a commercial and operational environment.
