About the role

We are delighted to announce that we are inviting applications for an experienced Shotfirer in our Western Australian Quarries Business.

There has never been a better time to join our Perth Quarry Services Team. With several long-term contracts in Western Australia now signed and underway, and more exciting new business ventures to come shortly, this area of our business really is buzzing with excitement.

This is a chance to secure a stable and long-term role with the global market leader in blasting. At Orica, we have incredible training and organisational development infrastructure in which to support Shotfirers, Operators and Blast Crew members who wish to take the next step their careers into Technical and Blast Engineering related roles, or Leadership within our large global business.

This is a residential role based in Perth, working a 10hr day Monday – Friday, as a Shotfirer you will form part of a well-oiled, united, highly performing, and supportive team of blasting professionals.

As a valued member of our quarrying teams, you will assist in always providing a quality service to our Western Australian Quarries Customers in a safe and environmentally conscious manner. You will be working closely with Surveyors, MMU Operators and Bench Assistants on site, managing all tasks associated with loading, tying and firing blasts.

Due to the location of our Perth Quarry Services depots, the ideal candidate will reside in the southern suburbs of the Perth metropolitan area.

What you will be doing

  • First and foremost, demonstrating and setting the example of our key company value: 'Safety is our Priority, Always';
  • Providing shotfiring expertise;
  • Assisting with training and mentoring of new team members;
  • Working in tight unison with all blast crew teammates to provide an excellence in service to our valued customers;
  • At all times acting with integrity and respect.

What you will bring

  • An unquestionable attitude toward working safely as a priority;
  • 1 year minimum Shotfiring experience;
  • WA Shotfirer’s license (essential) ;
  • WA DG’s - Explosive Transport License/ DG Security Card (desirable or eligible to obtain);
  • HR Unrestricted license (desirable or eligible to obtain);
  • A positive team-orientated work ethic;
  • Magazine Keeping / Inventory experience.
