Applications are invited for the full-time ongoing role of Media and Communications Adviser – Electorate Officer C - in the office of Bridget Archer MP, based in the Member’s electorate of Bass, Tasmania. 

The position would suit a highly motivated and organised individual with experience in media and communications who enjoys working in a fast—paced and dynamic environment. 

The key duties of the position include but are not limited to: 

  • Providing a high level of support to the Member in relation to all media and communications requirements
  • Providing high quality speeches to the Member in her Parliamentary duties and to maximise her contribution during sitting weeks
  • To maximise the Member’s presence throughout the Electorate
  • Develop and manage a strategic media and communications plan and budget
  • Develop and manage social media and website strategy
  • Media and public relations liaison
  • Manage social media and website content
  • Monitor both local and national media
  • Liaison with local and national media outlets and journalists
  • Media and electorate event coordination
  • Prepare draft media releases, speeches and talking points for approval by the Member.
  • Photography and videography
  • Maintenance of photo library
  • Manage e-newsletter and quarterly community newspaper content and distribution.
  • Liaison with community groups and monitoring engagement opportunities
  • Travel within the electorate and to Canberra for parliamentary sitting periods will be required. 
  • Represent the Member as required

The ideal applicant should possess the following skills and experience:

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Media, communications, public relations and or journalism experience
  • Excellent understanding and interest in Australia’s system of government, parliamentary and political processes
  • Well-developed understanding of relevant IT systems and social media platforms
  • Attention to detail
  • Well-developed organisational ability and time management skills
  • High levels of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion
  • Approaches tasks with a positive attitude
  • Self-motivated and demonstrates initiative
  • Preparedness to work overtime and on weekends when required

Employment conditions: 

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2020-23which include:

  • A commencing salary between $81,666 and $91,990 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
  • An additional optional allowance may be considered in recognition of, andas compensation for reasonable additional hours of work.
  • Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
  • An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

An initial probationary period of 3 months will apply and may be subject to extension.

The successful applicant will be required to comply with the relevant Draft Behaviour Standards and Codes endorsed by both Houses of Parliament, and may be required to undergo a National Police History check.
