We’re seeking a skilled Facility Technician to join our team and contribute to the efficient operation of our mineral processing facilities at the Weir Technical Centre in Clayton, Victoria.

This role is ideal for someone with mechanical skills such as basic fabrication, usage of hand and power tools and fitting skills for basic equipment maintenance, that is also interested in expanding their skill set.

You will perform routine testing, analysis and maintenance activities on Weir equipment and pilot plant test rigs for processing of mineral slurries. Equipment includes but is not limited to hydrocyclones, slurry pumps, slurry pipelines, mixers, thickeners, decanter centrifuges, filter press and other equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.

  • Review test plans.

  • Carry out equipment and pilot plant test work, collect test results and produce tabulated data for review by engineers.

  • Prepare samples and carry out laboratory test work such as particle size analysis and rheological characterization.

  • Equipment handling including set up and installation of new equipment.

  • Management and handling of materials that enter the WTC. This is carried out in accordance with acceptable Weir Minerals materials handling and management procedures with all documentation of site materials being administered in a manner that documentation is available at all times.

  • Contributes to preparing proposals for improving safety and efficiency

  • Receptive to training and learning new skills on the job.

  • Able to adapt flexibly to changes in equipment and test rig configurations for different applications.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years of relevant industry experience.

  • Proven experience with basic metal fabrication is desirable.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role.
