Job Description:

If you are passionate about Food and Quality, Mars Confectionary Ballarat has the role for you, working as their next professional Laboratory Technician

You will provide technical support and verification of the food safety program of raw materials, finished goods, in process and environmental samples, through the application of the Global Quality & Food Safety Chocolate Standards.

The role provides technical guidance in food safety risk assessments, guidance in troubleshooting and recommendations to the business on matters regarding microbiology to achieve and ensure the requirements of the Mars Quality Principle.

This is currently a maternity leave cover position, with consistent Friday & Saturday shifts & flex for additional leave cover.

What are we looking for?

  • Experience in a similar role working in a laboratory is preferred, but not essential

  • Tertiary qualification in Microbiology/relevant science major or Food Technologist/Scientist

  • Basic understanding of HACCP and GMP, preferred but not essential

  • Ability to follow standard processes

  • Outstanding time management

  • Ability to work in a collaborative team and continuously meet business standards

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Physical collection of raw material samples, in-process samples, hygiene and environment swabbing for analysis

  • Conduct microbiological and analytical analysis of raw materials, hygiene, in-process, environmental and finished product according to Mars Global Quality & Food Safety requirements

  • Action out of specification results and provide recommendations to the Laboratory Manager

  • Maintenance and input into Lab process including consumables, budget input, lab and equipment cleaning

  • Provide reports and data upon request of the Laboratory Manager

  • Disposition management of finished products

  • Awareness and adherence of Laboratory safety and Good Laboratory Practices
